It is important for you to know why someone should hire you over another job seeker with similar experience. Often I hear Job Seekers say they don't want to brag. If you don't let the hiring authority know why they should hire you over your competition, they might not figure it out for themselves. You need to come across confident, interested and emphasize what you can bring to the table that others may not. A Job Interview is NOT the time to be humble or shy!

MUST READIt is important to read and follow the 16-step Process that is covered in our Career Portal under the three phases of the Job Search Process:
Phase One - Prepare
Phase Two - Search & Connect
Phase Three - Interview
FREE JOB SEEKER WEBINARSThe response to our weekly Training Webinars has been excellent! Imagine for a moment that you are up against two other job seekers who have the same education, experience and expertise that you possess. Why should someone hire you?

These factors are also considered in the hiring process.
Which job seeker demonstrated...

the strongest interest in the opportunity being offered?

the highest level of confidence in their ability to do the job?

knowledge of the company as well as the job being offered?

the ability to fit into the company culture?

talents which would enhance current team members?

a track record of accomplishments and how they impacted past employers?

the ability to make the hiring authority "look good!"

Don't assume for one minute that hiring authorities are going to take the time to figure out who is the best fit for their opportunity. It is up to you to show a high level of interest, stress your accomplishments and the impact on past employers, as well as a higher level of confidence in your ability to get the job done.

Finding a job is a competition and you want to WIN by obtaining the job offer. It is your job, as a job seeker, to eliminate the competition by clearly showing the hiring authority why you are the person who will provide the greatest return on their investment (your salary package) if they hire you! Go out there and WIN!

Upcoming Free Job Seeker Training Webinars:
Are Your Goals Attainable?October 5th @ (11:00 AM PST/12:00 PM MT/1:00 PM CST/ 2:00 PM EST)

Have you ever wondered if the goals you have set for your job search are realistic During this session you will learn:

What to avoid

How to set attainable goals

How to attain the goals you set

How you measure your success

Obstacles are OpportunitiesOctober 13th @ (9:00 AM PST/10:00 AM MT/11:00 AM CST/12:00 EST)

You will experience obstacles during your job search. I was fretting over a big project that will keep me on the road a lot over the next week, plus the demands of seeing my regular clients, writing blogs, creating a new program, etc. I started to get paralyzed by it all, when a new thought popped into my head…
“How committed am I to feeling this way?”
Hm… hadn’t thought of it that way before. Strangely, the question made me smile. Who intentionally commits to something like a lousy attitude? The heavy stress that was starting to take over was instantly lifted, although I’m not exactly sure why.
Maybe a little humor simply helped me refocus on what I wanted to accomplish, rather dwelling on the obstacles.
Maybe the question reminded me of the things I AM committed to – loving my family, serving others, enjoying life. Powerful things that, when compared with how I was feeling, made the idea of committing to a bad attitude seem ludicrous.
Maybe it’s because I moved from the “I am stress” perspective, to the “I have stress.” Things that you ARE, can’t be easily removed. Things that you HAVE, can be gotten rid of with a simple decision.
Whatever the reason, the shift was significant and immediate. It was like getting a deep breath of fresh air after being in a stuffy, smoke-filled room. Aaahhh… that’s better!

YOU CAREER SEARCH PHASE TWO!

A NOTE FROM YOUR CAREER ADVISORDepression WILL Sabotage Your Job Search
During our last Job Seeker Training Webinar, our Career Coach realized that many of the job seekers participating on the live call had been out of work for extended periods of time. It's easy to get frustrated, depressed and worried if you're EVER going to land a job! No matter what has transpired in your job search up until now - you need to declare today as the beginning of "phase two" of your search.

If possible, attempt to land contract, temp or consulting work to show some recent experience. If that is not possible, volunteer your time with organizations that will give you the opportunity to interact with business people (who are often hiring authorities) You can list the volunteerism as recent activity. If you don't think you will ever land a job, you will spend your entire day proving yourself right. It's important that your begin to expect good things to happen in your job search. Schedule more informational interviews. Re-contact your business network and let them know you are a "free agent in the open job market and are excited about accepting a new challenge".

The BEST WAY for you to find a job is NOT Job Boards or postings on websites (there is too much competition). You need to market yourself to individuals who would be your bosses's boss and stress your career accomplishments and the impact they have had on your past employers. Stress the BENEFIT TO THEM when you are attempting to schedule an interview! Smile when you make your follow up telephone calls and you will come across more positive on the phone. Don't allow yourself the luxury of being depressed - even for a minute because it WILL sabotage your job search.

Upcoming Free Job Seeker Training Webinars:
August 4th @ 1:00 PM EST (12:00 PM CST) - Love Your Job in 4 Steps WorkshopWith fifty-seven percent of U.S. workers "not-liking their job", take the time to hear how to find a career you’ll love. You just qualified an assignment. You

secure a service agreement. You create a target list and your recruit

presentation. You make room on your desk to start the search. You

make a ton of calls, talk to many potential candidates, gain the

interest of a few and narrow it down to the top 3 or so best

candidates. You present the candidates, set up the interviews, coach

and debrief throughout the process and your client decides to pull

the trigger on the one they like best. The next thing you know your

hiring manger says, “I’ll take it from here.” Sound familiar?

Why is it that some hiring managers want our help throughout the

process until it reaches that critical stage? The stage when both

parties have to make the most difficult decision to date. The stage

when emotions are at there peak…when our work here is almost

done. Is it ego? Is it tradition? Is it that your hiring manager wants

to close the deal? It could be anything.

The key to being the one to make all offers starts at the qualifying

stage and continues throughout the hiring process. In order to

secure the responsibility for making the offer, follow these simple

steps:

1.
Act like a consultant… not an order taker.
2.

the offer.
Know why it’s in the client’s best interest for you to make<span style="color: #090f3a; question forum said it would be, experts say it doesn't pay off to look at a job offer through green-tinted glasses.
About half of 658 respondents said they'd turn down a dream job if their compensation would be 25% below the industry average.
Jeff Neil, a career coach and counselor in New York City, said there are four factors most people weigh when they're considering an ideal job: They want to do something they're good at; something they're proud of; something they enjoy; and something that pays well. And "many will happily settle for three of the four," he said.
For many, money isn't everything.
"People need to understand that a job offer is more than the paper that says 'here's your position and pay,'" said Brent Longnecker, CEO and Chairman of Longnecker and Associates, a Houston-based compensation consultancy. "What can the company do for you, and what can you do for it? Will this position you better in the future?"
If it's your dream job, both Neil and Longnecker advise you take it -- even if it pays less than what you think you should be earning. "Do it to get the skills, connections, and experience that you can ultimately leverage into another position internally or externally," Neil said. "It's much easier to get your ideal job in the future if you've already had something similar in the past."
Unfortunately, "dream" jobs often turn out not to be as perfect as they initially seem. A low-ball offer might be indicative of other problems at the company.
"I'd be mindful of if the company is offering less money because they're in a tough position, such as a startup, or a company in a turnaround phase, where they can really only afford to pay 75% of the market rate, or if it's a company that doesn't value its staff and is trying to take advantage of it," said Neil.
Longnecker suggests that before accepting, investigate the turnover rate within the company, since it's a good indicator of the company's culture. A low-paying company with average employee tenures of two or three years should raise a red flag, he said.
"If they say they have a great culture, but they have a low average tenure, there's a contradiction," said Longnecker.
A company like Southwest Airlines, for instance, that's known for its employee-centric work environment, was the lowest-paying airline, according to Longnecker, who consulted on its compensation practices. Despite low pay, Southwest still boasted a 1.4% turnover rate.
"They had a great work culture, and took care of their employees," he said. He suggests researching a company's history of offering raises, promotions and bonuses, and if decisions are performance-based.

Long-Term Earnings
One big worry about accepting a low salary is how it might influence your pay at your next job. Will you forever be pinned at below-market rates?
Till von Wachter, a Columbia University economics professor, said last year during testimony before Congress that recent job-market entrants who accepted low-paying offers may suffer from reduced earnings for another 10 to 15 years.
While Neil and Longnecker say these are all reasonable concerns, both caution that it's not necessarily the reality. What it comes down to is correctly positioning your value as a candidate to your next employer.
"It can be as simple as communicating to a prospective employer, 'I accepted a position with XYZ corporation because it was an opportunity to develop professional skills, but I'm now at a point in my career where I'd like to use those skills and be paid an appropriate market rate,'" said Neil. "If you're really focused on communicating the value you'll deliver to the company, you'll get closer to what you deserve than if you focus on your fears of earning less."
Weighing sanity over salary is a point Longnecker believes is imperative to remember, especially when he considers his own employment history. "Early in my career, I thought everything was about work. I worked 100 hours a week and completely lost sight of everything," he said. "I make less money now, but I have a lot more fun and I'm a whole lot happier."

Companies will feel ever more pain as the shortage of technically skilled workers intensifies.

David McCann - CFO Magazine
It may rank as the most curious dichotomy wrought by the recession: at a time when millions of people remain unemployed, many companies are having a hard time filling key open positions. It is also important to stress your high level of interest and your confidence in getting the job done!

Career Seeking Advice...

Tips To Advance Your Job Search
Here are a few tips to help advance your search:

Be patient, but have a written plan with daily, weekly and monthly goals.

Commit to accomplishing certain RESULTS each day.

Identify what makes you unique and develop your personal brand.

Get out of your house and away from your computer.

Take advantage of every job fair, networking events or social gathering where you could network.

Do daily tasks when working people do those tasks. On Job Boards you have the following:

The highest level of competition

Often resumes are screened out by automated systems

You could be eliminated for a lack of "keywords"

Individuals screening the resume are usually not the decision makers

If the company receives a high volume of resumes, often your resume is not even read

You must conduct a strong follow up campaign after you post your resume

You should also mail a hard copy of your resume to the decision maker

NETWORKING and DIRECTLY MARKETING your abilities to individuals who would be your bosses' boss ARE the best ways to conduct a job search.

Every day you should add at least one person to your professional network.

Every day you should send resumes to job postings on websites of your targeted companies.

Every day you should call to directly market yourself to a hiring authority.

Every day you should identify NEW companies to submit your resume

Every day you should make follow up calls and contacts on resumes you've submitted.

Every day you should call companies where you have interviewed to see if they have other positions available

Every day you should attempt to schedule informational interviews
