Job Boards are one of the easiest tools to use in your Job Search BUT they are NOT the best way to find a job. On Job Boards you have the following:
- The highest level of competition
- Often resumes are screened out by automated systems
- You could be eliminated for a lack of "keywords"
- Individuals screening the resume are usually not the decision makers
- If the company receives a high volume of resumes, often your resume is not even read
- You must conduct a strong follow up campaign after you post your resume
- You should also mail a hard copy of your resume to the decision maker
- Every day you should add at least one person to your professional network.
- Every day you should send resumes to job postings on websites of your targeted companies.
- Every day you should call to directly market yourself to a hiring authority.
- Every day you should identify NEW companies to submit your resume
- Every day you should make follow up calls and contacts on resumes you've submitted.
- Every day you should call companies where you have interviewed to see if they have other positions available
- Every day you should attempt to schedule informational interviews
