Bullseye!

CAREER ADVISOR - October 20, 2011
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTIs it time to consider a different target for your search? Before you consider changing your target, it's important to review your efforts in your current target. If you have only utilized job boards and websites, your target may still offer opportunities, you've just been focused on the two resources that have the most competition.

You may want to consider a new target if you have done the all of the following:
  • I have sent my resume directly to hiring authorities in my targeted companies
  • I have set up numerous informational interviews within my target
  • I have attended job fairs and networking events
  • I have followed up my mailed resumes with telephone calls
  • I have networked with all past co-workers, employers and supervisors
  • I have contacted the Professional Associations that represent my target
  • I have followed up on leads contained in Trade Publications for my target
  • I have dedicated at least 35 hours a week to my Job Search
If you have not done everything listed above, then focus on completing those areas before you walk away from your specific job targets.

If you have done everything listed above, then it may be time to go back into our Career Portal, click on PREPARE and complete the six steps within this first phase of a job search.

MUST READ Often the discussion of salary can result in you being screened out early in the interview process. Read the article "How Do You Handle Salary?" in the Career Portal Library. This advice will help you navigate the often uncomfortable discussion about the salary you desire.
